Oh this book! It starts with Aria, who is investigating her BFF Jenny's death. The police have labeled it a suicide, but she knew Jenny best and all signs point to some else. Something sinister. And like a dog with a bone, she will not rest until she uncovers what happened to Jenny - at any cost. She owes her friend that much.
We then meet Matthew Holt - we've only seen snippets of him before - but now, we meet the man behind the myth, the lengend, and WHOA! He's giving Damien a run for the top spot in my heart! Older, world-wiery, wiser, and just a bit of shade and mystery to his past, Matthew is not with out his own faults but when he sees something he wants? FULL STOP. It must become his.
Aria, a young woman looking for job to try find out what happened to her friend and get jusitce for her. Matthew, the older igmatic owner of the studio who's not only looking for new PA but is possible the last place where Jenny may have encountered something that ended her life before it ever truly started. This has "recipe for diaster" written ALL over it.
And yet, these two managed to not only make it work but believable. Until the even bigger underlying mystery was brought forth. And there - is where heart and logic/reason were at war. I wanted burn everything down.
My heart is still so sore just hours after finishing it ... the lies by omission, the betrayal, the murder mystery, and at the center of it all - a older man who's loved a younger for far longer than anyone even knew. This book was *chief kiss* PERFECT.
