Decidedly By Chance by Stina Lindenblatt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Final Score - 4 Stars!
This is book 5 in the By the Bay series but I couldn't vouch for this book as a stand-alone because I hadn’t read the previous book in the series (I had read the others though) so I immediately had to remedy that before beginning this book. And now that I have, although some of our favorite previous characters do appear in this book, yes this is in fact a stand-alone.
Wes’s life has been turned upside down. A workaholic, he now finds himself as the sole guardian of his three year old niece after the death of her parents. He now needs to help her understand why her parents aren’t coming back and what exactly that means. Hannah has decided the time is finally right for her to start her own family. She is a pediatric nurse and since she was brought up in the foster care system, she knows that the most important thing in life is be apart of a family - an experience she never got to have. Wes and Hannah are friends and throughout the book help each out when each are running into problems - like when Hannah needs somewhere to stay, Wes doesn’t think twice about offering his spare room. But neither expect feelings to come into play......
This book will give you all the feels and touch your heartstrings on so many different levels. There were a few times that my heart absolutely broke for Wes, Hannah and especially little Everly - no child should lose a parent and so young. The chemistry between Wes and Hannah is intense and the banter they share flowed so naturally. However, every scene Everly was in - she stole the show with her child like innocence. Beautifully written, this is not only a love story but it's about finding love born of friendship first. A great and solid foundation to start from.
