Wicked Torture by J. Kenner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Final Score - 5 Wickedly Awesome Stars!
The often say that the best is saved for last ... and in this case, I couldn't agree more!
This was so good and I love that a few of the characters from previous Stark universe books pop up in this one. Now, you don't need to go running to read the entire series - this is a standalone, so you won't be lost if you have not read anything Stark related previously.
Noah is a character we previously were introduced to in the S.I.N. series. He worked with Dallas and the Deliverance organization, but now he is heading up SATA in Austin for Stark Industries. He's suffered real loss - his wife and child were kidnapped and murdered 10 years before the book starts. It's something he's never gotten over and its what driven him.
Kiki King has also suffered read loss - the love of her life walked out on her and she's never really gotten over it. It has fueled both her personal and professional lives in different ways - she's driven to succeed in her marketing business after having abandoned her music career, but keeps men from entering her heart.
After a blind date, Noah wanders into a bar he frequents. There, someone on stage catches his attention. Kiki is performing for the first time in more than 10 years. She gets off stage and catches a glimpse of a red headed man. Chasing him down, Noah and Kiki come face to face for the first time in more than 10 years. At one time, they were happy & in love, the truest definition of soulmates who were even engaged. That is until Noah left, and Kiki - who was devastated at his loss - left her singing career.
Can these two former lovers overcome their complicated past to forge a new future together? Or will the past rear it's ugly head and drive them further apart?
This book was packed with emotion - so much so I was a crying mess with a terrible headache afterwards. But it was so worth reading Noah & Kiki struggling to achieve their second chance at happiness. J. Kenner knows how to do angst, emotional overload, and happy endings like no other! She's my definite go to person - #oneclick. Each time she opens a new series set in the Stark universe, I'm there!
I can't wait for the next adventure.
